Represents: Ruth represents the ideal widow, because she cherished the family, faith, and inheritance of her husband above her personal gratification, (her personal ambition, her original native allegiance, and her original heathen religion)
Meaning of the Name: The name, Ruth, means “friend”. Ruth’s allegiance to her mother-in-law was maintained only through Ruth’s ability to sacrifice herself for the sake of another. Her friendship with Naomi has become one of the world’s greatest example of the true meaning of friendship.
Color: Yellow represents “constancy”, “exalted” and “richness”. Ruth was certainly characterized by a radiant and strong personality and it is therefore that the color of the sun, “exalted in the heavens”, is dedicated to her. Her position in the ancestral line of Christ is sufficient testimony to the richness of her personal worth. Her faith adherence to Naomi has become an endless tribute to her constancy.
Emblem: Sheaves of barley – A symbol of plenty and the reward of work. It represents the collective worth of many deeds of kindness which are done for the sake of another. It also represents the fact that through patient industry a substantial reward may be achieved.
Badge: The sheaf within the triangle, symbolic of obedience, which will surely reap its reward.

Flower: Yellow jasmine was dedicated to Ruth it has an associated “humbleness”. This is a fitting tribute to Ruth who was willing to do the most humble type of work for the sake of Naomi.
Ideals: Loyalty and friendship. If we would become the ideal friend to someone else, or if we would like to receive someone else’s friendship, then we must first be deserving. Only by being loyal in our faith, do we merit the giving or gaining of a friend.
Season: Ruth’s season is the summer, because she represents the growing and maturing season of life itself. Ruth represents that period in human life when the peak of one’s capacity is achieved and the individual has the mental, emotional and physical stability to make the greatest strides in shaping the earthly life.
Jewel: The yellow topaz has been dedicated to Ruth. The jewel has been associated with “rarity.” Certainly a friendship such as the one enjoyed by Naomi and Ruth is a rare gem will worth treasuring.
Beatitude: (3rd) Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.
Burial: Yellow is our emblem of obedience, as shown by Ruth, who was obedient and faithful to her husband’s people and his religious belief. In memory of our sister and her faithfulness, I deposit these flowers in her casket/grave.
